Dear Parents/Guardians,
We will be doing creative book reports this year in Reading! Students will be required to do one book report at the end of every nine weeks. The directions are as follows:
1. Choose a chapter book, nonfiction book, biography, poetry, etc.
This book must be a “just right” book (on their level, not too easy or hard).
This cannot be a book that they have read before or is a movie
If students need help finding a book on their level, they can ask me
2. Read the book
3. Fill out a graphic organizer that matches the type of book *You can download these below
4. Use the graphic organizer worksheet to write a summary of the book
Be sure to include each section of the worksheet in the summary
This should be at least 5 paragraphs
5. Have an adult check the summary for mistakes.
6. Build a creative project to present the book to the class.
EXAMPLES ARE BELOW
7. Do a 5 minute presentation in front of the class.
Show your project
Tell the class about the book in a fun way
Turn in your worksheet, summary, and project
8. Be sure to use the rubric to see how you will be graded
I will give students some time in class to read their books. However, some reading, as well as the summary and creative project must be done at home. I can provide the following materials: white poster board, colored pencils, markers, colored paper, glue, note cards. If you need anything else or have any questions, please feel free to email or call me. Thank you for your help. I think the students will have a lot of fun and learn a lot from these projects.
